Alicante Golf Course situated in a residential development on the outskirts of Alicante City is an excellent 18-hole golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros which opened in 1988. The course is an oasis in the middle of the city and is referred to as the big green-lung of Playa de San Juan in Alicante.
Incorporating five huge lakes and artificial rivers into the design has increased the difficulty rating of the course which has a par of 72, with six par 3's, six par 4's and six par 5's, and a distance of 6.270 metres. Designed so that players never have to play two holes with the same par following on each other, an option which allows for more varied and amusing game. With large tees and wide fairways, this golf course has its own personality.
The course is a very challenging one even for the top golfers. Each hole needs a very specific and different strategy, and players need to use almost all their clubs. Of particular note is the 9th hole where Seve has taken license with an artificial lake, designed in the shape of an S, which gently curves around the green. Whilst on the 14th hole, golfers can enjoy having to clear the ball over a re-creation of Roman ruins.
The course has a driving range with 70 bays, chipping area, practice bunkers and putting range, and private lessons are also available.
